Volunteer Spotlight: Henry Bartlett!
Q: How long have you volunteered for YHS and what made you want to get involved?
A: 4 months
Q: What made you want to get involved at YHS?
A: My love of animals, especially dogs.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do as a volunteer and why?
A: Walking the dogs, training them for new homes, knowing it will also make their new owners very happy. I am a yellow dog walker so I start off with the "tough" dogs and finish the day with a dog that likes a cuddle.
Q: Do you have any tips for new volunteers?
A: It's good to be consistent in your visits. The dogs rely on you, especially your "Blue Ribbon" dogs.
Q: Do you have pets at home? Tell us about them!
A: I have a very big show Basset Hound. He is called Monty and is very naughty. :) His father was best of breed sire champion at Crufts.
Q: What else would you like to share about your YHS experience?
A: The dogs and the staff are very friendly. When I get back to the U.K., I will almost certainly continue my volunteer work at the local/national dogs' home.

Logging your hours is essential to YHS for a variety of reasons. We track the total amount for grant applications and tax purposes. Knowing when and where folks are volunteering also helps us identify if there are times or areas where we need more help.
