The Yavapai Humane Society (YHS) is nestled in the beautiful mile-high Bradshaw Mountains of Arizona, just 90 minutes north of Phoenix.  YHS is one of the most progressive and innovative animal welfare programs in the nation and is currently recruiting for the following positions:

Chief Veterinarian

The primary role of this position is managing the Shelter-Clinic, Spay and Neuter Wellness Clinic, Behavior Team, Foster and Rescue programs, as well as overseeing the medical intake (assessment, treatment & disposition) of all animals brought to YHS.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate of an accredited college or university by the American Veterinary Medical Association with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor Degree, plus five years’ experience as a veterinarian, preferably in a shelter environment.  Must possess a valid DEA license.  This position requires at least two years of managerial and/or supervisory experience with experience operating within a budget, along with good computer skills.  Must be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Arizona and possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.

The essential functions of the Chief Veterinarian position include diagnose and prescribe treatment for animals; Conduct observations of bite animals undergoing rabies quarantine to ensure compliance with State Rabies Regulations; Prevent and control disease in the shelter; Assist Animal Control in the assessment of potential cruelty and neglect cases; Responsible for the day-to-day activists of the Shelter Clinic’s and Receiving’s medical/technical staff; Responsible for monitoring the operations of the Spay and Neuter Wellness Clinic, the Medical and Behavior teams and their programs; Supervision of immediate subordinate staff members including writing performance reviews, counseling and progressive discipline; Monitor the purchase and usage of all controlled substances; Attend educational seminars and training to enhance the medical management of the animal population of YHS.

Veterinarian – Spay/Neuter Clinic

Tired of private practice, emergencies, working six or seven days a week?  Consider a change of pace with limited client contact, no emergencies, Tuesday-Friday only veterinary practice at the Yavapai Humane Society’s (YHS) Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic.

YHS is seeking a 4 days/week (full-time) veterinarian for our Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic. YHS’ public clinic is a great place to work, with a highly-trained support staff, a state-of-the-art facility and quality medical protocol.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to animal welfare; previous clinical experience, particularly in shelters or a fast-pace veterinary setting; strong surgical and dental diagnostic skills; good written and verbal skills; critical thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to multi-task and prioritize; dependable, reliable, and efficient; effective communicator with clients, volunteers, and staff; ability to cater to a wide range of clients with empathy, professionalism, compassion; and superior communication skills; ability to work independently or as a team with other veterinarians, staff and volunteers throughout out the organization; flexibility and professionalism; experience writing performance reviews and managing a small staff of six employees.

Internships:

Marketing and PR Intern

(10-20 hours/week, unpaid - college credit may apply)
The Yavapai Humane Society is seeking a Marketing Intern.  Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Development, the Marketing and PR Intern assists the Marketing Department with day-today activities. He/she will help generate a greater awareness of the Yavapai Humane Society throughout our service areas.  The intern will also assist with special projects, special events (adoptions, fundraisers, etc.) and cause marketing campaigns.
